Three Lecturers of IPB University Win the 2021 PATPI Award

Three lecturers of IPB University from the Department of Food Science and Technology (ITP), Faculty of Agricultural Technology, won the Association of Indonesian Food Technology Experts (PATPI) Award 2021. This award was given at the International Conference on Food Technology, Nutrition, and Sustainable Agriculture (ICFTNSA) 2021, Medan (29-30/9). They are Dr. Azis Boing Sitanggang, Dr. Tjahja Muhandri and Dr. Nancy Dewi Yuliana.

Dr Azis Boing Sitanggang was awarded the Best 1 Young Scientist Category. The maximum age in this category is 40 years. Dr. Azis is a young researcher who graduated from a doctoral program at the Technische Universität Berlin, Department of Chemical Engineering who has published many research results on the use of membrane technology to produce functional food ingredients.

As a Young Scientist, Dr. Azis has published more than 27 Scopus indexed non-proceeding scientific articles, as a resource person or speaker in international and national scientific seminars more than 35 times, as a lead guest editor in the journal Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, resulting in several patents that have been granted and currently being submitted, as well as being a visiting lecturer at King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand in 2018 and 2019. In addition, Dr. Azis is also active in guiding students in the Department of Food Science and Technology to win awards at world prestigious student competitions such as the Developing Solutions for Developing Countries Product Development Competition which is part of the Annual Meeting, The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), United States.

Meanwhile, Dr Tjahja Muhandri won the Best 1 Award in the Invention and Innovation Category. Dr Tjahja has 15 patents (5 granted and 10 in process) and 2 copyrights. “I didn’t expect to be the Best Recipient in the Invention and Innovation Category. Even so, I feel proud to receive this award because this event is an award for lecturers who are more engaged inMSMEs,” he said.

There are 11 innovations Dr. Tjahja which have been applied in industry. One of Dr Tjahja’s popular innovations is the Sun and Fan Combination Drying Method. This method has been applied in many of its fostered Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) which are members of the Indonesian Food IKM Coaching Clinic Forum.

Dr. Nancy Dewi Yuliana was named the 2nd Best PATPI Award for Academic Achievement. Dr. Nancy was chosen to represent PATPI Bogor Branch to participate in the PATPI Award competition in the Academic Achievement field because she was considered to have an excellent academic track record. Especially related to activeness in conducting research and other scientific activities, as well as roles in professional organizations.

Dr Nancy is very active in participating in local, national, and international scientific forums. She is also active in the dissemination of ideas in the form of scientific publications in reputable international journals and accredited national journals. Dr. Nancy is also active in building research collaborations with researchers or institutions from within and outside the country. Her field of practice since graduating from Leiden University is the application of metabolomics in the field of food science and technology as well as halal authentication.

Currently Dr Nancy has produced 35 reputable international publications and 28 nationally accredited journals, and one book chapter.
“I hope to continue to produce research works that are useful for the scientific community and society in general, especially those related to the use of the metabolomics approach in research related to functional food and detection of halal food,” he said. (dh/Zul) (IAAS/AML)
